From Gym to Crag - 201024

Gym to Crag: Gain a core skillset and use those skills in a variety of settings to form foundational understanding of skills involved in climbing in the outdoors. While completion of this class won't get you set to climb El Cap, it will give you a better grasp on what makes for a proper climbing anchor.

Sport Anchors Clinic Outcomes:
● Increase awareness of differing characteristics of climbing indoors and outdoors. Consider the way we take to crags outdoors and our impact on others.
● Gain awareness of factors impacting anchor integrity and strength
● Increase awareness of nuanced characteristics of common anchoring materials
● Comfort in judging the integrity of a sport anchor construction given the limitations of a particular site

Time Commitment:
2 sessions, each meeting 2.5 hours

Appropriate Ages:
16 and up

Prerequisites:
Current Lead Climbing Skills Check at our facility
Self Rescue Clinic Outcomes:
• Increase awareness of differing characteristics of climbing indoors and outdoors. Consider the way we take to crags outdoors and our impact on others.
• Discover simple solutions to complex puzzles all easily constructed with gear you will likely have on your gear rack.
• How to escape a belay while your lead climber is weighting the rope and needing rescue
• How to transition to an assisted raise if your climber below you requires aid

Refine critical thinking skills to apply solutions to novel situations


Time Commitment:
2 sessions, each meeting 2.5 hours

Appropriate Ages:
19 and up
