Lifeguard Instructor Course Prerequisites:
- Be at least 17 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course.
- Possess a current basic-level certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.
- Attend and successfully complete the mandatory pre-course skills evaluation.
- Successfully complete the online Introduction to the Lifeguarding Instructor Course prior to the first on-site skills session.
- Obtain all instructor and participant materials before entering the first session of the instructor course. Materials consist of:
• American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor’s Manual (print).
• Lifeguarding course presentation and/or DVD.
• American Red Cross Lifeguarding Manual (print or digital).

Certification Requirements:
- Successfully complete the online Introduction to the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor course
- Successfully complete the Pre-course Skills Session.
- Attend and actively participate in all course sessions.
- Successfully complete class activities, including the required practice-teaching assignments.
- Demonstrate instructor-level skill competency in all skills and scenarios.
- Pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent.
- Class Location: Room 230d CREC & Mable Lee Hall Pool

- Communication: Participants will receive a confirmation email with detailed information and a release form prior to the first class. A release form is required for attendance.
- Cancellation, transfer and refund policy: Notice of registration cancellation must be in writing and received no later than the registration deadline in order to receive a full refund. Refunds will be less 20% as a cancellation fee if received after the registration deadline. No refunds will be issued after the pre-course session. Transfer of the full registration fee toward the next class may be permitted if received no later than the registration deadline. Transfer of registration fees after the registration deadline will be less 20% and will be at the discretion of the Assistant Director of Instructional Outreach and Aquatics.
