Lifeguard Instructor Course Prerequisites:
1. Be at least 17 years old on or before the last day of the instructor course.
2. Possess one of the following:
a. A current American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.
b. A current American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid and either an American Red Cross certificate for CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or an American Red Cross certificate for CPR/AED for Lifeguards.
c. An equivalent certificate from another organization.
3. Successfully complete the online Orientation to the Red Cross.
4. Successfully complete the online Orientation to the Lifeguarding course.
5. Successfully complete the online Lifeguarding Instructor Precourse Exam (80 percent or better).

Certification Requirements:
To become certified as a Lifeguarding instructor, instructor candidates must:
1. Successfully complete the Online Session.
2. Successfully complete the Precourse Session.
3. Attend and actively participate in all course sessions.
4. Successfully complete class activities, including the four practice-teaching assignments.
5. Score a minimum of 80 percent (32 correct answers out of 40 questions) on the Bloodborne Pathogens Training Instructor Self-Study Test.
6. Score a minimum of 80 percent (12 correct answers out of 15 questions) on the basic-level Administering
Emergency Oxygen final written exam.
7. Score a minimum of 80 percent (20 correct answers out of 25 questions) on the instructor course final written exam.

SPECIAL NOTES: Additional $35 will be paid directly to the American Red Cross. Additional fee of $60 if Campus Rec is providing course materials.

Participants will need to bring a swimsuit and towel. Must attend all instructional time to be eligible for certification. Participant must be 15 years old by the first day of class.
